Benjamin, Haeger win US Sailing's yachting awards

NEW YORK (AP) Steve Benjamin, a 1984 Olympic medalist, and Annie Haeger, an Olympic hopeful, have been named US Sailing Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year for 2015.

Benjamin, 60, of Norwalk, Connecticut, is the oldest recipient of the award. The collegiate sailor of the year in 1978 at Yale, he won the silver medal in the 470 class at the 1984 Olympics.

Haeger, of East Troy, Wisconsin, was the female collegiate sailor of the year in 2012 while at Boston College.

Last week, Haeger, the skipper, and Briana Provancha of San Diego finished sixth in the world championship, giving them the inside track for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
