MOSCOW (AP) Russian swimmer Yana Martynova has been suspended for four years after testing positive for the banned anabolic agent ostarine.

Martynova, a 400-meter medley specialist and three-time Olympian, tested positive in July, less than a week before the world championships in her Kazan hometown. She was suspended for four years by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) during the worlds, from which she was withdrawn.

According to Russian agency R-Sport, Martynova's father, Valery, said his daughter ingested the substance inadvertently and was awaiting the result of her appeal of RUSADA's decision.

The news of Martynova's suspension came only days after the World Anti-Doping Agency said it will study allegations by British daily The Times of widespread doping in Russian swimming.
