Charges dropped for high school sports star accused of rape

PITTSBURGH (AP) Prosecutors have dropped all charges against a two-sport star at a suburban Pittsburgh high school who had been accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2v80JHq) reports that Allegheny County prosecutors told a judge the girl and her mother no longer wanted to press charges against 18-year-old Ross Wilkerson.

Prosecutors allege that Wilkerson asked the girl to go to a pool house behind his home, saying he had a gift for her, and then sexually assaulted her in a closet.

But Wilkerson's attorneys say they found text messages and social media posts that cast doubt on the girl's story. The attorneys say the sex was consensual.

Wilkerson was the leading scorer for Chartiers (SHAR'-teers) Valley High School's basketball team, and he played on the baseball team.
