Gennady Golovkin secured his 20th straight knockout victory on Saturday and retained his WBA Super World middleweight title by defeating Willie Monroe Jr. in six rounds.
Golovkin, who improved to 33-0, has yet to fight a 12-round bout in his career. Thirty of his victories have come by knockout.
Golovkin knocked Monroe down twice in the second round, but the finishing blows came in the sixth after Monroe fought back in the third and fourth rounds. In the sixth, Golovkin unleashed a barrage of punches to knock Monroe down. Monroe got on his feet before the referee counted to 10, but a dazed Monroe told the ref "I'm done" when asked whether he wanted to continue fighting.
The Kazakhstan native said after the bout that he'd like to fight Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez.
