Basketball recruit Gaston Diedhiou, a native of Senegal, was denied admission into the University of Minnesota, according to a report from the Star Tribune in Minnesota.

Diedhiou was cleared by the NCAA but Minnesota's office of admissions determined he was "unprepared for academic success" at the school, with major concern over his scores on English proficiency tests, according to the report.

College Basketball: Who has the best home court?

A source told the Tribune that there is hope Diedhiou could be eligible for the second semester. Not having the 6-foot-9 power forward will hurt the Gophers' frontcourt depth.

Minnesota went 25-13 and won the NIT last season.
