BOSTON (AP) David Walker scored a career-high 23 points and Northeastern beat Boston University 71-65 on Sunday in a season opener.

Quincy Ford added 11 points for the Huskies, who have won four of their last five meetings with their crosstown rivals. Scott Eatherton grabbed 10 rebounds.

Northeastern, the preseason favorite in the Colonial Athletic Association, trailed 36-27 at halftime. The Huskies caught and passed the Terriers on Ford's 3-pointer with 8:04 remaining. The lead went back and forth before Eatherton's basket and another 3-pointer from Ford gave Northeastern the lead for good at 65-60 with 2:11 left. Another basket from Eatherton and two free throws from Ford helped hold off the Terriers.

Cedric Hankerson led BU with 15 points. Cheddi Mosely added 12 and John Papale 11.

Except for Northeastern's opening basket, the Terriers led the entire first half, scoring the final six points for a nine-point lead at intermission.
