UNLV survives again, 59-57 over Sam Houston State

LAS VEGAS (AP) Rashad Vaughn scored 18 and UNLV beat Sam Houston State 59-57 on Sunday night, surviving a missed game-winning attempt in the last seconds for the second game in a row.

Kaheem Ransom pulled Kennesaw State within 58-57 on a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left, and Vaughn made 1 of 2 free throws a second later to make it a two-point Rebels lead. Dakarai Henderson attempted a 3-pointer to give the Owls the win, but missed as time expired.

Vaughn scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half and Cody Doolin added 10 points and seven assists. UNLV (2-0) trailed 47-43 on Henderson's 3-pointer with 9:13 left and answered with 11 straight points to take the lead for good.

Sam Houston (1-1) outrebounded the Rebels 53-39, but shot only 21 of 69 from the floor (30.4 percent).

Ransom led the Bearkats with 13 points and Jabari Peters added 11.
