TROY, Ala. (AP) Wesley Person scored three of his five 3-pointers early, scoring 17 points as Troy wasted little time breaking away from Alcorn State and onto a 72-51 victory Tuesday night.

The Trojans (2-3) had fallen behind early but shot ahead with a 21-6 run until the third of Person's 3-pointers forced an Alcorn State time out, trailing 31-14 with just under five minutes left before halftime.

Troy shot 47 percent in the game, finishing with a season-best 18 assists along with seven steals. Kevin Thomas scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and four steals for his sixth career double-double. John Walton III scored a career-high 15 points. Kelton Ford had six assists.

The Braves (1-5) came as close as nine on a Marquis Vance layup in the second half. LeAntwan Luckett paced Alcorn State with 14 points, Reginald Johnson added 13 and Vance 10 with nine boards.
