Washington leads UAB past Morehead State 58-48

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) C.J. Washington scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading Alabama-Birmingham past Morehead State 58-48 on Thursday night.

Tyler Madison added 11 points, Hakeem Baxter chipped in nine and Robert Brown had eight for the Blazers (3-5), who rebounded from three straight losses to ranked teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Washington was 6 of 10 from the field.

Tied at halftime, UAB opened the second half with an 11-2 surge capped by Brown's layup and four-point play to lead 36-27 at the 13:49 mark. Morehead State (4-6) pulled within five, but Madison responded with a 3-pointer and layup to push the lead back to 11 with 8:09 left and the Eagles didn't threaten the rest of the way.

Angelo Warner led Morehead State with 13 points, Corban Collins contributed 10 and Lyonell Gaines grabbed 12 rebounds. Brent Arrington committed eight of the Eagles' 21 turnovers.
