BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) Tyrell Nelson scored 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Gardner Webb to an 82-66 win over Thomas University on Saturday night.

Jerome Hill finished with 17 points and 12 boards for the Bulldogs (5-4), while Jarvis Davis added 14 points.

Gardner Webb was never seriously threatened, opening the game on a 22-8 run while holding Thomas University to just 39.7 shooting from the field and 3 of 14 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs also forced 19 turnovers.

Alan Love led the Night Hawks with 19 points and six rebounds off the bench. Adonai Rogers added 13 points and Max Grace finished with 11.

Gardner Webb led 45-28 at the break, eventually pushing its lead to 23 in the second half.
