The Mustangs (10-3, 1-0) won the opening tip, scored within seconds on a Yanick Moreira jumper and knocked down three of their first four shots to lead 7-0 in a little over two minutes. They never trailed and went into halftime 49-15 on back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers.
Justin Martin scored 11 and Moreira added 10 as SMU finished with 52-percent shooting and canned 5 of 9 3-pointers.
The 49 points was the most in the first half for SMU, who rang out the old year on an eight-game winning streak. The Mustangs' losses came within eight days of each other to teams now ranked or receiving votes - No. 7 Gonzaga, Indiana and Arkansas.
