VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) CJ Carter scored 24 points, Marcus Tyus added 19 and Nebraska-Omaha pushed past South Dakota 86-77 in the Summit League opener for both teams on Friday night.

The Mavericks (7-6, 1-0) overcame a sloppy first half, shooting 60.7 percent from the field in the second. Jake White chipped in 13 points and Mike Rostampour had 10 with six rebounds.

Tyler Larson and Brandon Bos each had 17 points for South Dakota (6-9, 0-1), but combined to shoot 12 of 37 overall. Casey Kasperbauer finished with 11 points, all in the first half, and Larson had 12 rebounds for the Coyotes.

Omaha erased a 12-point deficit with a 12-0 run near the midway mark in the second half. White hit a jumper and Carter made two layups to push toward a 78-73 lead with 2:33 left. Four late free throws and a layup from White sealed it.
