House's 22 points leads Texas A&M past Auburn, 71-61
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Danuel House fired away from outside and his Texas A&M teammates took care of matters closer to the basket.
House scored 23 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead the streaking Aggies to a 71-61 victory over Auburn on Tuesday night.
''I thought Danuel House was critical,'' Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy said. ''He was the one making shots and obviously had the green light when he makes six 3s.''
The Aggies (14-5, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) never trailed on their way to a fifth straight win.
House got off to a hot start and missed only one 3-point attempt after coming in averaging 18.6 points over the last five games. The rest of the damage was mostly done in the paint, where Texas A&M outscored the Tigers (10-10, 2-5) 42-14.
''I kind of felt it in the warm-ups because we got extra time to come over here and shoot,'' House said.
Auburn has lost three straight games.
''We didn't play with the same effort and energy that we've been playing with,'' Tigers coach Bruce Pearl said. ''We didn't play well together offensively, and defensively their guards were able to rip and take it to the basket. It was really hard for us to keep their guards in front of them.''
Jalen Jones added 13 points for the Aggies while Alex Robinson drove to the basket repeatedly and scored 12. House shot 7 of 10 from the field and the rest of the team missed all seven 3-point tries.
''We did a good job of attacking the paint and most nights that is going to get you the win,'' Kennedy said.
Antoine Mason led Auburn with 16 points and Cinmeon Bowers finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. KT Harrell scored 11, all in the second half, six below his season average.
The Aggies' starting lineup had a size advantage across the board, and it showed with the inside scoring and a 36-29 rebounding edge.
''They just outmuscled us,'' Mason said. ''It was difficult.''
The Aggies made half of their 56 field goals while holding Auburn to 15-of-44 shooting (34.1 percent).
Texas A&M scored on three straight dunks and went ahead by a dozen points with seven minutes to go. Auburn never managed to pull to within single digits after that, and House's 3-pointer with four minutes left pushed it to 67-52.
Auburn fans were riding House urging him to dunk it after his earlier missed one-hander when he drilled that final 3. It was that kind of night for the two teams.
''Our guys have a lot of confidence right now and you can tell the team that has been winning and the team that is struggling,'' Kennedy said.
HOUSE CALL: Danuel House scored 13 of Texas A&M's first 15 points over first 5:18, with four 3-pointers and a made free throw after the fourth. He hadn't made more than four 3-pointers in a game coming in.
TAHJ GOES DOWN: Auburn guard Tahj Shamsid-Deen aggravated a right shoulder injury with 2:19 left in the first half and didn't return. Tigers coach Bruce Pearl said it popped out of its socket.
Texas A&M: Jumped out to an 8-0 lead as Auburn missed its first six shots. It's the Aggies' first five-game conference winning streak since February 2011 in the Big 12.
Auburn: It was the first time Pearl had faced Texas A&M. The Tigers' only big edge came at the free throw line where they made 25 of 35 attempts. (A&M was 9 of 17).
