Taylor Barnette, who left Virginia to go to Belmont, will play his former school in the NCAA Tournament.

Second-seeded Virginia (29-3) takes on the Bruins (22-10) in Charlotte on Friday in the opening game for both teams.

Barnette's desperation 3-pointer in the Ohio Valley Conference final against Murray State gave the Bruins their seventh automatic NCAA berth in the last 10 years.

The Cavaliers, who fell in the Atlantic Coast Conference semis to North Carolina, have lost two of their last three games with Justin Anderson battling injuries. They led the nation in scoring defense (50.7 points per game) while Belmont was in the top 30 in offense.

The winner draws the Georgia-Michigan State winner. The Spartans eliminated Virginia in the Sweet 16 last year.
