SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah Valley has hired Mark Pope to coach its basketball team.

A university spokesman confirmed the move on Monday.

Pope makes the 10-minute move from Provo to Orem after spending four seasons as an assistant to Dave Rose at BYU. The Cougars went 98-43 and made it to three NCAA Tournaments during his time with the program.

Pope replaces Dick Hunsaker, who stepped down after 13 years with the program. The Wolverines went 11-19 in his final season.

Pope played his first two seasons of college ball at Washington and finished his career at Kentucky. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 1996 NBA draft. He was an assistant at Wake Forest in 2010-11 before taking the BYU job.
