Dick Vitale: Auriemma's comments about men's game were a 'cheap shot'

Thursday April 2nd, 2015

College basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale tweeted that Connecticut women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma's comments about the men's college game on Wednesday were a "real cheap shot."

Auriemma said that men's college basketball is "a joke" and "behind the times" as part of a response to a question of what he thinks of the state of the men's game in 2015.

KEITH: Is this the best Final Four field ever?

Auriemma said he was speaking as a spectator and not as a basketball coach.

"This is entertainment we're talking about," Auriemma said. "People have to decide, do I want to pay 25 bucks, 30 bucks to go see a college scrum where everybody misses six out of every 10 shots they take, or do I want to go to a movie?  We're fighting for the entertainment dollar, here, and I have to tell you it's not entertainment from a fan's standpoint."
