Report: Maryland, Georgetown to renew rivalry with home-and-home

Tuesday April 21st, 2015

Maryland and Georgetown will play a home-and-home series over the next two seasons, reports CSN Baltimore

In 2015-16, the teams will meet at Xfinity Center in College Park, Md., as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games between the Big East and Big Ten. The Terps and Hoyas will then play in 2016-17 at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., for the same event, according to the Washington Post.

Next season's game will be the first time Maryland and Georgetown have played each other in men's basketball since 2008 and the first time the teams have played on either's home floor since 1993, according to the Post

In February 2012, Terrapins athletic director Kevin Anderson said Maryland would not schedule the Hoyas in any sport until the schools had worked out their efforts to restart their rivalry in men's basketball. The schools have scheduled each other in multiple sports since then, but had not in men's basketball.

The Terps finished 28–7 in their first year in the Big Ten, while Georgetown went 22–11 last season.
