Memphis forward Austin Nichols will reportedly transfer to Virginia, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.
In July, Memphis denied Nichols' transfer request but later eased on its decision, initially stipulating that the former five-star recruit could not transfer to a number of schools on a designated list. Virginia was one of the schools Nichols was not allowed to transfer to -- he would have had to pay the cost of attendance himself during his NCAA-mandated redshirt year to do so.
The junior forward and his family hired a lawyer, and Memphis changed its stance, eventually giving Nichols freedom to transfer anywhere. He had reportedly wanted to transfer to Virginia early on in the process.
The 6-9 Nichols averaged 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds last season for the Tigers. He injured his ankle in a game on February 7 and ybHe will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility left.
Rivals.com ranked Nichols the No. 17 recruit in the class of 2013.
