CINCINNATI (AP) Jalen Reynolds scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Xavier defeated Miami (Ohio) 81-72 in a season opener Friday night.

Reynolds took a feed from Trevon Bluiett for a dunk that sparked a 10-0 run in the last seven minutes to break away from Miami (Ohio) for good.

A pair of free throws by Jere Vucica pulled the RedHawks to within a point, 61-60, with 6:57 left in the game, but two turnovers, a foul and a steal on successive possessions allowed Xavier to break away.

Miami (Ohio) stayed close for a half, but Edmond Sumner, who scored 19 points, scored on a layup two minutes into the second half, capping a 6-0 start and putting the Musketeers up by 12.

Reynolds added four steals and three assists.

Eric Washington scored 19 for Miami (Ohio), Vucica and Geovonie McKnight added 11 apiece.
