Freeman leads Old Dominion to 67-50 win over Niagara
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Trey Freeman scored 20 points, Aaron Bacote had 18, and Old Dominion used a 14-0 run in the first half to power its 67-50 win over Niagara in the season opener for both teams on Friday.
Freeman, the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and a first team all-league selection last season, added four rebounds and finished 7 of 19 from the floor. Denzell Taylor had nine rebounds.
Old Dominion maintained control in the second half, never letting the Purple Eagles within 5 points in the final 20 minutes. The Monarchs' win was its 25th straight at home, the seventh longest streak in Division I.
