UC Riverside coasts to 100-68 win over William Jessup

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) Jaylen Bland and Taylor Johns scored 23 points apiece to propel UC Riverside to a 100-68 win over William Jessup on Saturday night.

Bland was 9 of 17 from the floor, including five 3-pointers, while Johns hit 9 of 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds in UC Riverside's regular season opener. Gentrey Thomas added 12 points and Secean Johnson had 11, including the go-ahead bucket in the first half that sparked a 17-5 run to the break.

William Jessup , an NAIA school, opened the second half with 9-4 run that included baskets from Desmond Floyd and Kelton Newman to narrow the gap to 44-40 but couldn't keep the pace.

UC Riverside pulled away down the stretch, finishing with 55.7 percent shooting from the floor.

The Warriors were led by Corey Clement, who had 22 points, while Darrell Polee and Andre Smith had 12 apiece. Smith also had 10 rebounds.
