Southern knocks off Tulane 90-82

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Adrian Rodgers scored 20 points and Jared Sam added 17 as Southern University, which upset Mississippi State 76-72 on Monday, knocked off Tulane 90-82 on Thursday night.

Christopher Hyder added 15 points, Shawn Prudhomme chipped in 13 and Trelun Banks had 12 for the Jaguars (2-1).

Tulane, which opened the season with a 68-67 overtime loss to Alabama A&M and then beat Drake, 79-74 in overtime on Monday, could not stay with the Jaguars down the stretch.

Southern led 39-35 at the half and stretched that to 75-64 with 6:47 remaining in the game. Tulane (1-2) had an 18-9 run to cut it to 84-82 with 24 seconds left. Hyder and Prudhome made six free throws to seal the win.

Malik Morgan made 4 of 8 from long range for 18 points to lead Tulane. Dylan Osetkowski had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Louis Dabney added 16 points.
