BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Yogi Ferrell scored a career-high 38 points - topping his previous best by eight - in his 112th game with Indiana.
The senior was 12 of 18 from the field, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range, to lead the Hoosiers to a 90-65 victory over IPFW on Wednesday night.
Ferrell's scoring output was just four off the all-time Assembly Hall scoring record of 42 points set by Steve Alford in 1987 and it was the most points by an IU player at the facility during that span.
Ferrell scored the game's final eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers. He had a solid line across the board with five rebounds, five assists and made all 10 of his free throws.
''I mean, basically I was surprised myself some shots went in,'' Ferrell said. ''Sometimes I couldn't even see the rim because they had a hand in my face. My mindset was to go out there and basically just attack the rim.''
IPFW coach Jon Coffman said he wasn't surprised to see Ferrell erupt for that kind of game.
''I was hoping he would not have 38 tonight because I knew what that would mean for us,'' Coffman said. ''It is not surprise to me. He is a very good player, and really hard to guard in transition and ball screen situations. Those are the things that we made a priority for guarding him coming into this game, but we did not execute.''
Troy Williams had 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, besting his previous career high of 14 rebounds, for Indiana (7-3). In the first half, Williams outrebounded IPFW by himself, 13-12.
Williams also had a career-high five blocks.
''The way Troy played, that's the Swiss Army knife, the guy that can do all those different things and do them at a pretty high level,'' Indiana coach Tom Crean said.
Robert Johnson added 16 points and Max Bielfeldt had 11 off the bench for Indiana, which shot 51.8 percent from the field and held a 51-28 advantage on the boards.
Johnson was IU's best shooter from deep against IPFW, making all five of his shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
IU used an 11-2 run late in the first half to build a 15-point lead at 44-29. The Hoosiers led 48-34 at halftime.
Mo Evans led IPFW (7-4) with 21 points. John Konchar added 14 points for the Mastodons.
IPFW: IPFW is now 0-19 all-time against teams in the Big Ten. This was the first ever meeting between Indiana and IPFW. The Mastodons came into the game having equaled their best start at 7-3 since first playing Division I basketball in the 2001-02 season.
Indiana: The win for Indiana was its 100th since the beginning of the 2011-12 season. That's the first time IU has recorded 100 wins in a similar span since 1999-2004 when the Hoosiers won 101 games. . Indiana has shot 40 percent or better in 25 of its last 43 games dating back to last season. IU ranks seventh in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.
