Mount St. Mary's pulls away from LIU Brooklyn 79-61

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) BK Ashe scored 16 points and Gregory Graves had 14 to lead a balanced attack and Mount St. Mary's opened Northeast Conference play with a 79-61 win over Long Island Brooklyn on Saturday.

Ashe had 10 points in the first half when the Mountaineers (4-10) opened a 38-23 lead. Graves scored all of his points in the second half. Chris Wray, Elijah Long and Junior Robinson had 13 points apiece.

Martin Hermannsson had 17 points and Jerome Frink 16 for the Blackbirds (6-6), who were one of only two teams in the conference with winning records before league play.

Mount St. Mary's used a 21-4 run in the first half to take control. Five of the baskets were 3s and Ashe had 10 points in the run that made it 35-19.

A 3-point play from Graves made it 57-36 at 12:21 of the second half.
