SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Michael Buchanan had 23 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as South Carolina-Upstate held on to beat Stetson 85-83 on Saturday.
Buchanan, who was 10-of-21 from the floor, also grabbed five offensive rebounds as the Spartans stopped a three-game losing skid.
Deion Holmes added 16 points for Upstate (9-19, 3-8 Atlantic Sun).
Trailing 44-43 at the break, the Spartans started strong in the second period to go up 65-59. They stretched that to 77-68 with 4:44 left.
Stetson's Luke Doyle drilled a 3-pointer to start a 6-0 run and close to 77-74 with 1:51 left. Josh Cuthbertson answered with a layup and the Spartans made six free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Divine Myles led Stetson (9-18, 3-8) with 21 points.
In the previous meeting this year, the Hatters rallied from 13 points down in the second half to beat Upstate 89-86 in overtime.
