UMBC edges Binghamton 80-79 in OT

BALTIMORE (AP) Jairus Lyles scored 25 points including the winning free throw in the final seconds as UMBC edged Binghamton 80-79 in overtime on Wednesday night.

Binghamton tied the game at 79 with 1:17 to play in overtime then missed two scoring attempts from inside when Lyles was fouled and went to the line. He sank the first for an 80-79 UMBC lead with eight seconds remaining and the Retrievers (7-23, 3-12 America East Conference) held on for the win.

Will Darley added 22 points for UMBC and Joe Sherburne had 15.

In the second half, a Darley 3-pointer had the Hawks up 72-65 with 1:53 to go but two turnovers helped Binghamton to cut the deficit to 73-70 with 29 seconds remaining. Then Binghamton's Marlon Beck II sank a 3-pointer with two seconds left to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Thomas Bruce had 18 points for the Bearcats (7-21, 4-11).
