DENTON, Texas (AP) Trey Freeman scored 24 points with five rebounds and five assists to lead Old Dominion past North Texas 76-70 Thursday night.

Denzell Taylor's layup gave Old Dominion (18-12, 11-6 Conference USA) the lead for good, 17-16 with 7:06 to play and the Monarchs built a 30-24 lead at intermission.

Old Dominion then used a 9-0 run, capped by Freeman's 3 with 16:19 left. Zoran Talley's jumper less than two minutes later stretched the Monarchs' lead to 43-26.

But the Mean Green chipped away, and Allante Holston's 3-point play cut the deficit to 61-55 with 4:18 to go. Deckie Johnson later hit a 3 to pull to the Mean Green to within five points, but they couldn't get closer.
