Incarnate Word closes season with win over Houston Baptist

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Shawn Johnson finished with a season-high 27 points and added eight rebounds and Incarnate Word beat Houston Baptist 97-86 in the regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday.

Houston Baptist will go on to the Southland Conference tournament next week where it will be the No. 4 seed. Incarnate Word is ineligible for the tournament due to transitioning rules from Division II to Division I.

Kyle Hittle added 21 points and Simi Socks had 15 for the Cardinals (17-12, 12-6), who shot 57.4 percent from the field. Incarnate Word's 97 points tied for its second highest total of the season.

The Cardinals led by four at halftime and eight after a Johnson 3 with 13:54 left. Houston Baptist cut it to 74-73 after an Anthony Odunsi free throw, but Incarnate Word answered with a 13-1 run to put the game away.

Odunsi led the Huskies (16-15, 10-8) with 22 points.
