Virginia Commonwealth head basketball coach Will Wade has received a contract extension to remain with the Rams through the 2023–24 season, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

Wade finished his first year at VCU with a 25–11 record, the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title and an appearance in the NCAA tournament’s Round of 32.

He inked a five-year deal that paid him $1 million annually in base salary last year, taking over after Shaka Smart departed for the head coaching position with the Texas Longhorns.

He arrived in Richmond after two seasons as the head coach at Chattanooga, where he compiled a 40–25 record over two seasons.

Wade’s name also circulated as a possible candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Vanderbilt.
