Western Kentucky landed a pledge from five-star center Mitchell Robinson on Wednesday.

ESPN first reported the news. Robinson, rated as the No. 11 player in the 2017 class by Scout.com, did the unlikely as a blue-chip recruit opting to join a mid-major program.

Robinson was originally committed to Texas A&M, where Western Kentucky coach Rick Stansbury worked last season. After Stansbury took over the Hilltoppers’ program, Robinson, who attends Chalmette High in Louisiana, re-opened his recruitment.

Upon arrival at Western Kentucky, Stansbury hired former NBA player Shammond Williams onto his staff from Tulane. Williams is Robinson’s godfather.

Robinson took an unofficial visit to campus on Wednesday and committed. Playing on Nike’s spring AAU circuit, he averaged 15.5 points, 11.6 rebounds and led the league in blocks with 4.1 per game.
