Cal scoring leader Jabari Bird suffered concussion in loss

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) California scoring leader Jabari Bird is recovering from a concussion sustained in his team's Pac-12 Tournament semifinal loss to Oregon on Friday night.

The school said Saturday that Bird was day-to-day after being taken to a hospital in Las Vegas to be tested for a concussion after he landed hard on his head just 1:04 into the game during a 73-65 defeat to the No. 5 Ducks. The senior guard's status for potential postseason play was not immediately clear, though he will be examined daily.

Cal has a 21-12 overall record and went 10-8 in Pac-12 play, which the Golden Bears hope will be enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is announced Sunday. Bird is averaging 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for Cal.
