After last season's five-win, no-bowl downfall, the Hurricanes looked to turn things around in 2008. With 11 freshmen on their two-deep roster, though, few expected them to right things so quickly. Now on a five-game win streak, Randy Shannon's troops control their own destiny in the ACC's Coastal Division. "We still feel like it's us against the world," Hurricanes running back Javarris James told reporters. "People will look at us and some at the beginning of the season probably thought we'd have a disappointing season." Sounds like the old Miami already.

Houston had no problem sending Tulsa -- which began the season at 8-0 -- crashing to earth last weekend. In beating the Golden Hurricanes 70-30, the Cougars handed their Conference USA West rivals a second straight loss and pulled them into a three-way tie in the race for the division title. The only solace for Tulsa is that the 40-point blowout loss was not as bad as the rivalry's 1968 game -- which saw Houston hang 100 points on Tulsa for a 100-3 win.

Remember the Scarlet Knights? After a 1-5 start, the Garden Staters, who were written off and rightfully lampooned throughout September and into October, have won four straight and appear poised to become bowl eligible this Saturday at home against Army. In last Saturday's 49-16 road win over woebegone South Florida, fifth-year senior quarterback Mike Teel -- who bore the brunt of the early season blame -- threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns.
