Oklahoma picked to win Big 12 Conference

Thursday July 17th, 2014

Oklahoma was picked to win the Big 12 Conference this season by media that regularly cover the league.

It's the ninth time the Sooners, who have won seven Big 12 titles, have been picked to win the conference.

The Sooners received 47 out of the 56 first-place votes. Baylor, who won the conference last season, received the other nine first-place votes.

Kansas State, Texas and Oklahoma State were next in the polling with Texas Tech, TCU, West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas rounding out the list. Last season, Oklahoma State was picked to win the conference, but the Cowboys lost their last regular season game to Oklahoma, denying them a Fiesta Bowl berth.

Oklahoma went 11-2 last season, capped by a 45-31 victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

The Sooners return 20 starters from last year's squad, which is expected to garner a top-five preseason ranking in the polls.
