Tennessee, West Virginia will play in Charlotte to open 2018 season

Tuesday July 22nd, 2014

Tennessee and West Virginia will play at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium to open the 2018 season, the schools announced Tuesday.

The game will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, with the start time and broadcast information to be determined later. It will be the first ever meeting between the Volunteers and Mountaineers.

Bank of America Stadium, the home of the NFL's Carolina Panthers, will host a similar game next year when North Carolina and South Carolina meet to open the 2015 season. The stadium also regularly hosts the ACC Championship Game and the Belk Bowl.

Tennessee is coming off a season in which it went 5-7 under first-year coach Butch Jones. West Virginia finished 4-8 in 2013.
