UCF head coach George O'Leary has named Pete DiNovo the Knights' starter at quarterback after he won a four-way competition to replace Blake Bortles.

UCF head coach George O'Leary has named Pete DiNovo the Knights' starter at quarterback, the school announced Monday.

DiNovo -- a redshirt freshman -- replaces Blake Bortles, who decided to forgo his final season of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft. He was selected with the third pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There was a four-way competition for the starting job, according to the Orlando SentinelDiNovo beat out sophomore Justin Holman, freshman Tyler Harris and redshirt sophomore Nick Patti, a transfer from Boise State who was granted a waiver to play immediately.

Holman was the only member of the group to see any time at quarterback last season.

The Knights were ranked No. 28 in the first coaches' poll of the season. They open the season against Penn State on August 30 in Dublin, Ireland.
