Tulane RB accused of hitting another student

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Tulane running back Rob Kelley has been charged with simple battery and simple robbery after authorities say he struck another student and took his bicycle.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/1q0mfUw ) that Kelley, 21, was arrested Aug. 4 and posted a $10,000 bond at a court appearance that day.

Kelley's attorney, Scott R. Bickford, says in a statement that there was never any intent by Kelley ''to either harm the alleged victim or deprive him of his property.''

Kelley, a New Orleans native, has been away from the program due to academic issues, and the school issued a statement Monday night suspending the senior from the team.

Kelley has made six starts in 38 games with Tulane, rushing for 1,038 yards on 253 carries.
