Head coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys had their national championship hopes dashed by a late-September loss to West Virginia. Their loss in their final regular season game to the rival Oklahoma Sooners knocked them out of contention for a BCS bowl berth.

They landed in the Cotton Bowl, where they were lost to Missouri

This season, the Cowboys were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 preseason media poll. Oklahoma State will open its season against Florida State at AT&T Stadium and close with road games against defending conference champion Baylor and rival Oklahoma.
