California Golden Bears vs. Northwestern Wildcats

The Golden Bears begin the 2014 season on the road after going 1-11 in 2013. The Wildcats opened last year 4-0 but finished 5-7 after a seven-game losing streak in conference play.

Game Facts 

California Golden Bears facts

This will be the second straight season that Cal opens against Northwestern. 

This is Sonny Dykes' second season coaching Cal.

The Golden Bears have lost 16 consecutive games against FBS opponents and 14 in a row against Pac-12 foes. 

Cal has a new defensive coordinator, Art Kaufman. 

Cal was picked to finish last in the Pac-12 North division in a preseason media poll.

Northwestern Wildcats facts:

Northwestern returns 18 starters from last season. 

Four of Northwestern's seven losses in 2013 were by a touchdown or less.

This is Pat Fitzgerald's ninth season coaching Northwestern. 

Linebacker Collin Ellis returned two interceptions for touchdowns for Northwestern in last year's 44-30 win over Cal on the road. 

Northwestern has not lost a season opener since 2004.
