LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) University of Kentucky cheerleader Brooke Gibbs was treated and released after being injured in a fall late in the fourth quarter of the Wildcats' 59-14 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.
The school didn't provide details about Gibbs' fall that brought a hush over the crowd. Applause slowly grew as medical personnel stabilized the sophomore's head and neck and placed her on a board for transport to UK Chandler Hospital.
The cheerleader lay motionless for several moments before flashing the thumbs-up as she was carted out of Commonwealth Stadium.
Several hours later the school texted a statement that said Gibbs had been released and that her family appreciated the care from trainers and UK and hospital medical staff that treated her. The statement added, ''she has heard the outpouring of thoughts, prayers and concerns from Big Blue Nation and can't wait to get back on the field with her teammates and the football team soon.''
