Oklahoma State requests removal of offensive College Gameday sign

Saturday August 30th, 2014

Oklahoma State said on Twitter that it did not approve of an offensive sign shown Saturday on ESPN's College Gameday and called for it to be removed.

The sign referenced The Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of Native Americans based in the Southeast during the 19th century.

One of the affected tribes was the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

The nickname of Florida State, which faces Oklahoma State Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, is the Seminoles.

Oklahoma State's twitter account favorited a tweet bearing a picture of the sign, but later explained that "we missed the hashtag at first glance and unfavorited."
