Baylor receiver Levi Norwood will have wrist surgery, out three weeks

Thursday September 4th, 2014

Baylor wide receiver Levi Norwood will undergo wrist surgery and is out for three weeks, head coach Art Briles announced at a press conference Thursday.

Norwood hurt his wrist in the Bears' season-opening win against SMU last Sunday. The three-week timeframe would put him back for Baylor's Big 12 opener Sept. 27 at Iowa State.

A redshirt senior, Norwood started 13 games over the past two seasons. He was named second team All-Big 12 as an all-purpose player and honorable mention All-Big 12 as a receiver and returner last season. Norwood had 47 catches for 733 yards and eight touchdowns in 2013 and added two punt return touchdowns.

Norwood's injury means Baylor will be missing its top four receivers in Saturday's game against Northwestern State. Top receiver Antwan Goodley injured his quad against SMU, Devin Chafin has a sprained ankle and Corey Coleman has a hamstring injury. In their absence, Jay Lee, Davion Hall, KD Cannon, Quan Jones and Lynx Hawthorne will likely see more reps.

Briles also said quarterback Bryce Petty is unlikely to play Saturday. Petty injured his back against SMU.
