Akron vs. Penn State

After opening the season in Ireland against the UCF Knights, the Penn State Nittany Lions will look to go 2-0 against Akron on Saturday. Penn State defeated UCF in the final seconds, 26-24, while Akron was also victorious in its opener, 41-0 over Howard

Penn State facts

This will be the fourth meeting between Penn State and Akron. The Nittany Lions are 3-0 in the series. 

Sam Ficken was recently named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week. His field goal won the game over UCF. 

Christian Hackenberg's 454 passing yards against UCF set a school record. 

DaeSean Hamilton was named the Big Ten's Co-Freshman of the Week after his 11 receptions and 165 yards in Week 1 both broke freshman school records. 

Penn State has a 39-19 record against teams from the state of Ohio.

The Nittany Lions are 21-3 against teams currently in the Mid-American Conference, which Akron belongs to.

An estimated 20,000 Penn State fans traveled to Dublin to see the team's opener.

Last week, James Franklin became the 11th Penn State coach to win his initial game with the program. The Nittany Lions have had 16 different head coaches.

Penn State RB Cole Chiappialle and Akron QB Chandler Kincade played on the same high school team.

Defensively, Penn State gave up a total of 246 total yards in Week 1, including just 24 rushing yards.
