Game Facts

Notre Dame facts

Golson sat out all of last season after he violated Notre Dame honor code. In 2012, he led the Fighting Irish to a 12-0 regular season record and an appearance in the BCS National Championship game.

The Notre Dame-Purdue rivalry is 118 years old, with the teams meeting 85 times.

Five Notre Dame players are suspended while the school investigates potential academic fraud. Of the five players, three -- cornerback KeiVarae Russell, defensive end Ishaq Williams and receiver DaVaris Daniels -- were projected starters.

In Saturday's win over Michigan, the Fighting Irish limited the Wolverines to 189 passing yards and intercepted quarterback Devin Gardner three times. Michigan's leading rusher, De'Veon Smith, totaled 30 yards.

Purdue is one of three Big Ten teams Notre Dame faces this season. The other two are Michigan and Northwestern.

Purdue facts

Purdue went 1-11 and 0-8 in conference play last season in the first year of coach Darrell Hazell's tenure. The Boilermakers have not won consecutive games since November 2012.

Sophomore Etling was named Purdue's starting quarterback in August after beating out sophomore Austin Appleby. Etling started the final seven games of last season, completing 55.8 percent of his passes for 1,690 yards and 10 touchdowns, but did not face Notre Dame.

The Boilermakers were picked to finish last in the Big Ten West division in a preseason media poll.

In Saturday's loss to Cental Michigan, no Purdue player recorded more than 33 receiving yards. Etling, who was replaced by Appleby in the fourth quarter, tied for the team lead with 53 rushing yards.

Purdue is 26-57-2 all-time against Notre Dame. The Boilermakers have not beaten the Fighting Irish since September 2007.
