BYU will retire quarterback Jim McMahon's jersey on during halftime of its Oct. 3 game against Utah State, director of athletics Tom Holmoe announced Thursday.

McMahon will also be inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. He became eligible for the Hall of Fame because he is set to graduate, 37 years after enrolling at BYU.

During his four-year career at BYU, McMahon threw for 9,536 yards and 84 touchdowns en route to setting 70 NCAA records. He led the Cougars to victory in the 1980 Holiday Bowl with 21 points in the 

McMahon was the No. 5 pick in the 1982 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears and led the team to a Super Bowl victory during the 1985 season.
