Virginia Tech starting defensive tackle Luther Maddy will undergo knee surgery Tuesday, and will miss the next 2-4 weeks. Maddy played in Tech's 27-25 loss to Georgia Tech last week with a torn meniscus.

Virginia Tech starting defensive tackle Luther Maddy will undergo knee surgery Tuesday and will miss the next two to four weeks, the program announced Monday.

Maddy played through a torn meniscus in Tech's 27-25 loss to Georgia Tech last week. He has nine tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss this season.

Nigel Williams will replace Maddy as the starter at tackle.

The Hokies are 2-2. The team won its first two games, including a victory at Ohio State, before losing two straight home games.

Virginia Tech hosts Western Michigan on Saturday.
