Marshall hires PR firm to bolster Playoff bid
Thursday October 23rd, 2014

Marshall University and Conference USA have hired a public relations firm to help their case in having the Thundering Herd be selected for the first College Football Playoff, according to USA Today

Marshall is 7-0 and ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll. The Herd are one of just four FBS teams still undefeated, but the only one belonging to a non-Power 5 conference.

USA Today reports that Brener Zwikel & Associates has been hired, and released a statement Thursday citing Marshall's record and rankings and the stats of senior quarterback Rakeem Cato to "make a plea to consider the squad for the College Football Playoff."

Cato has thrown for 1,912 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games, and has only been sacked eight times. He is tied for seventh in the FBS for most touchdowns and is No. 18 in passing yards.

Marshall is averaging 47.4 points per game, behind only Baylor in the FBS, and is surrendering 16.6 per game, which is seventh-lowest.

The Herd are 8-3 in bowl games, including a win over Maryland in last season's Military Bowl.
