Sam Houston State runs past Houston Baptist, 76-0

HOUSTON (AP) Sam Houston State piled up 601 yards rushing and 823 total yards, both school records, in its 76-0 win over Houston Baptist on Saturday.

Donavan Williams led the Sam Houston State (7-4, 6-1 Southland Conference) ground attack, rushing for 212 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries. Cory Idlebird ran for 138 yards and two scores and Jalen Overstreet added 130 yards with two touchdowns.

Ridgeway Frank returned the opening kickoff 57 yards and, two plays later, Jared Johnson connected with Gerald Thomas on a 38-yard touchdown pass to give Sam Houston State a 7-0 lead just 41 seconds in.

After a 48-yard touchdown run by Overstreet with 6:51 left in the first quarter, the Bearkats had more points (28) than Houston Baptist had total yards (25).

Johnson had 101 yards passing and two touchdowns in just one quarter of play.

Houston Baptist (2-9, 1-7) was limited to 177 total yards.
