Pohl had touchdown passes of 7 yards to L.T. Smith in the first quarter and 12 yards to Conor Hundley in the second quarter. Those touchdowns and a pair of field goals by Robert Stein had the Zips (5-6, 3-4 Mid-American) ahead 20-0 at halftime.
The Minutemen (3-8, 3-4) scored on Austin Whipple's 1-yard pass to Jean Sifrin early in the third quarter before Hundley ran 12 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and Stein added a third field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Zips dominated in total yards 411-235, with the Minutemen gaining just 67 yards on the ground. Zach D'Orazio made 10 catches for 121 yards for Akron.
Whipple was intercepted three times and the Minutemen lost a fumble in the cold, snowy conditions that included wind chills in the zero-degree range.
