Three Notre Dame defensive players out for game at USC

Tuesday November 25th, 2014

Three Notre Dame defensive players will miss Saturday's game against USC with injuries, Irish coach Brian Kelly told reporters Tuesday

Junior defensive lineman Jarron Jones will be out for four to six months after suffering a Lisfranc injury in his foot during last Saturday's game against Louisville. Freshman safety Drue Tranquill tore his ACL in the game and is also done for the season.

Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Sheldon Day will not play due to an MCL sprain, but Kelly expects him to return for the team's bowl game.

The injured players are three of Notre Dame's top 10 tacklers this season.

Tranquill played through his injury against the Cardinals after passing initial tests. Subsequent tests revealed the full extent of the injury. Kelly expects him to be ready in time for spring practice.

Notre Dame is 7-4 after losing three straight games and four of its last five. Saturday's game is the regular season finale for the Irish.
