Tennessee will play Bowling Green to open the 2015 season, replacing UAB, which decided to end its football program last week, the school announced Tuesday.

The game will take place Sept. 5 at LP Field in Nashville, home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. It will be the first meeting between the schools.

UAB had non-conference games scheduled against Tennessee, Georgia State, South Alabama and Troy next season and against Kentucky in 2016.

"We are pleased to announce that we have been able to maintain our plans to open the 2015 season in Nashville, now against Bowling Green," Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart said.

The Volunteers have played two other times at LP Field: the 2010 Music City Bowl, a 30-27 loss to North Carolina, and a 2002 victory over Wyoming.

Tennessee finished 6-6 this season and will play Iowa in the Taxslayer Bowl at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., on Jan. 2.

Bowling Green went 7-6 this year, losing in the MAC Championship game 51-17 to Northern Illinois. The Falcons will play South Alabama in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 20.
